December 13 40 kids and their families came to Valley View Health Center's Chehalis story time event on Tuesday, December 13. Each child told Santa what he or she wanted for Christmas and received a goodie bag, apples donated by McDonald's and a book. This was the second annual story time event, which are held in three separate community clinics. Each year we see more people from the community coming to enjoy story time and just get in the holiday spirit.

Valley View Health Center's Executive Director Steve Clark has been selected by the Providence Centralia Hospital medical staff as the winner of the 2011 Community Member Award of Merit.
He was presented with the award in a ceremony Monday night by Providence Centralia Hospital Medical Staff President Dr. David Fick and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kevin Caserta, who noted Valley View's work to provide medical services to the community.
the nonprofit network of clinics has been expanding in the Lewis County area to include six locations within Lewis County and one just outside the area and focuses its services on those who would otherwise be unable to obtain medical service.
Valley View, which opened in 2004, now has clinics in Chehalis, Centralia, Winlock, Toledo, Onalaska, Morton and Raymond. The Centralia location, an urgent care clinic off Cooks Hill Road near Providence Centralia Hospital, provides an alternative to the emergency room, especially for those without insurance.
"Steve and his team have helped build Valley View into a strong community partner," the nomination letter notes. "Where many community health centers are pulling back and have difficulty finding providers, Valley View has stepped up to meet the community need here in Lewis County."
The Chehalis Valley View clinic offers medical, dental and behavioral health services and all Valley View clinics accept most insurances including Medicaid payments in addition to using a sliding fee scale based on income for those without insurance.
The Community Member Award of Merit recognizes the work of Lewis County community members. The award has been delivered every year since 2006 to highlight the outstanding work within the community and beyond of various medical professionals with a focus on the expansion and growth of availability to affordable medical services for the less fortunate.

October 10 Despite heavy traffic and uncooperative weather, our Diabetes Nutrition Workshop on October 7 was another success! Several VVHC patients and family members braved the elements to learn more about nutrition and how to manage Diabetes.
Our speaker was Missy Evans, Registered Dietician from Providence Health Systems. Participants learned how to create healthier meals, prepared a snack and won door prizes.
Our first Diabetes Nutrition Workshop was held in March where participants asked for the information on a regular basis. Three participants from the first workshop attended the October workshop as well. Workshops are funded by various community businesses and organizations. If you would like to help fund a future VVHC event, please visit www.vvhc.org/Donations.html for more information or call 360-330-9557. Your organization name will be on all workshop advertising flyers.
Our Nutrition classes are free to our patients and a family member. Classes are open to all VVHC patients. We have two more Nutrition classes scheduled this year:
* November 3 in our Raymond clinic and November 9 in our Onalaska clinic.
Visit www.vvhc.org/Events.html for a copy of the flyer and how to reserve your spot at one of our next workshops!
